The injector on a diesel engine is its most complex component and has been the subject of a great deal of experimentation -- in any particular engine, it may be located in a variety of places. The injector has to be able to withstand the temperature and pressure inside the cylinder and still deliver the fuel in a fine mist.
Took that thing off (fairly easily), it was one wire on that plastic connector that goes into base, unit, that has all bulbs in it. Looked like it was melt a bit. Use some very small screwdriver and tried to clean that plastic. Then, used some WD40 (as I didnt have contact cleaner), leaved it for 15 min, then, connected all again.
The old one is knackered - that much is obvious - no amount of cleaning is going to resurrect that - you need a new relay! As for the Halfords one - no that is the wrong one and is rated too high (40 A). You need part number: 6547TX. These can be bought new from a Peugeot or Citroen dealer for £8.81 inc. VAT new.
