The bigger draw for the KTM is the better all-around performance of the bike. I know the CRF has some issues at low-speeds with flame-outs and I dread the idea of having to pay for a new ECU to fix this ~$700. From what I understand the KTM has a weaker subframe and the service intervals seem like a pain in the ass for a long-haul ride. Its all-new parallel-twin engine was compact but powerful, striking a balance that would resurface almost thirty years later in bikes like the Honda Africa Twin, KTM 890 Adventure, and yes, Yamaha’s own Ténéré 700.
